String Theory

This was my final piece for A2, with the theme of action and reaction. I demonstrated this by using string wrapped around the wooden frame coming out of my work, the string meant to represent our actions and how one decision we make can have a domino effect on the rest of the decisions we are faced with, offering us all the numerous paths we can take.

For this piece I was using three pictures which I felt had an impact on my life. The first was me as a young child after I was adopted, the second was an MRI scan of my knee when I had my sports injury, which ended my sports career, and the final one of me once I had turned 18, with all the other opportunities now open to me.

I started these pieces by choosing images I thought could fit the theme of this work and considered whether to use images more person to me or ones that are more universal to other people, such as images of 9/11. After various experimentation I ultimately chose personal images as I felt I could present these images in a more relatable manner. Another aspect I wanted to incorporate into the work was three-dimensionality., To do this I made frames that would be placed over the wooden canvas, which I would wrap the string around. Finally to add more depth to the piece I decided to print a second picture of the base photo, cut geometric shapes from it and place it within the web or strings to match to the original photo.
